Moz Local Gives Localeze, Yext & Competitors A Wake Up Call
Search engines and local search directories rely on a handful of data sources to find and display local business information. For small and medium-sized businesses, the process of managing these local listings across all of the important websites and platforms is a very time consuming and often frustrating process. We have to navigate to each of the listings individually and “claim” them. In order to claim each listing, we must first provide a unique PIN number for each individual listing which is obtained either through an automated phone call or postcard – for every location. Even with just one location this was a long process – imagine the time it would take for businesses with a dozen locations! Most large organizations and Internet marketing companies resigned to paying a considerable amount of money for each managed location to either one of the data aggregators such as Localeze or to an alternate service such as yext. Though these services offer a huge time savings, the price point proved too high for most small businesses and agencies.
Moz Local To The Rescue!
In December 2012, Rand Fishkin (Moz co-founder and former CEO) announced the acquisition of GetListed.org – a local listing research and reporting tool. Through GetListed.org, small businesses could quickly discover missing or inaccurate data within their local listings and helpful links would point them to the right place to begin the claiming process.
A little over a year later, Moz has completely transformed the service and relaunched it as Moz Local.
With Moz Local, we can now upload a spreadsheet of all locations and Moz Local will standardize and distribute your location data out to all five major U.S. data aggregators:
- Infogroup
- Neustar Localeze
- Acxiom
- Factual
- Foursquare
AND three high traffic local directories whose data is populated across several websites:
- Superpages
- eLocal
- Best of the Web Local
